A company Christmas party provides a fantastic opportunity for businesses to show gratitude to their employees. It is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate everyone’s achievements over the past year. According to numerous studies, employee engagement thrives when teams feel recognised and valued, and a festive celebration can create a sense of camaraderie that carries over into the workplace. In fact, events like these can help strengthen relationships among colleagues, making them feel more connected and motivated.

Professionalism at the Party: Contracts Still Apply!
While office Christmas parties are a time for fun, it is important to remember that professionalism should still apply. Employees should be aware that their conduct at an event still reflects on the company. Even though it’s a social gathering, the same expectations regarding behaviour, dress codes, and communication apply. This means inappropriate actions, excessive drinking, or unprofessional behaviour could result in consequences.

Employers should remind staff that they are still bound by their employment contracts, including policies on conduct, behaviour, and social media usage. Setting expectations ahead of the event is one of a number of ways employers can reduce the risk of inappropriate conduct, which is increasingly important given the new legal duty to take preventative steps to prevent sexual harassment.
